Oglethorpe University is situated on a wooded 100-acre campus in Atlanta's Brookhaven neighborhood, approximately seven miles from downtown Atlanta. The institution, established in 1835 and relocated to its current location in 1915, is distinguished by its Gothic revival architecture, with the academic complex designed to resemble Oxford University and designated as a National Historic District. Operating as a private liberal arts college, Oglethorpe maintains selective admission standards and offers undergraduate programs with particular strengths in business, communications, and psychology. The university features a traditional residential campus environment with required on-campus housing for first and second-year students, and competes in NCAA Division III athletics as the Stormy Petrels.
