The public liberal arts institution, established in 1889 as Georgia Normal and Industrial College for Women, operates from a traditional campus featuring Greek Revival and Victorian architecture. As Georgia's designated public liberal arts university, GCSU maintains selective admission standards and emphasizes undergraduate education in arts and sciences, while also offering graduate programs in nursing, business, and education. The university's academic programs are particularly noted for nursing, business administration, and education, with all undergraduate students completing a core liberal arts curriculum.
