Presbyterian College is an incestuous cult. Too many administrators and faculty are former alumni. The only thing they push more than the Left Wing Marxism that is replacing their former Christian curriculum is the never-ending ?Go Blue Hose? Koolaid. PC no longer hires full time tenure track faculty, preferring to farm out classes to a revolving door of adjuncts, many of whom don?t even possess a Masters degree. What a sad decline!
Cons: I'm not very impressed with the lack of communication between administration, faculty, and students. My roommate and I have experienced this with several issues we've had. The AC units in Searcy, Prunty, and Tower had mold in them at the beginning of the year, and it took some students multiple "work orders" to have the units replaced. In Searcy Hall, there is a constant smell of weed, body odor, and general funkiness. Half of this is the fact that the facilities team doesn't seem to be aware that bathrooms need to be mopped, and the other half is whatever biohazard is usually growing in the kitchen. There's also an insect problem, ranging from fleas to wasps. Stephens is also small enough that it's a ridiculously cliquey school, not unlike middle school in terms of maturity levels of the students who act this way. And for a women's college, there sure are a lot of male students. Pros: The professors are some of the best I've had. I transferred here, so I'm confident in saying that. The security is also really good, which is great since the majority of students are women. The Student Success Center is an incredibly useful resource, and I wish more colleges had resources like this. Sady in particular is so, so helpful and kind. Overall, unless something goes terribly sideways, I plan to stay at Stephens College.
Very difficult if you are a transfer student especially if you are enrolling in any engineering programs. Professors have very limited hours for students, help sessions for different departments are posted then you go to find out the building is closed no one there, advisor cancelled multiple appointments day of. Tutoring sessions were only for a half hour, doesn?t help much when you are taking hard core courses such as physics. Tell your student they are doing great when they are barely passing because they have to take difficult courses in one semester because they are transfer student. Overall very disappointing with the amount of money they charge you would think they would have excellent academic support centers for these students.
