Delaware State University, located in Dover, Delaware's capital city, is a public historically Black university established in 1891 as the State College for Colored Students. The 356-acre suburban campus sits approximately one mile north of downtown Dover and features a mix of historic and modern buildings, including several antebellum structures that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As a land-grant institution, DSU maintains strong programs in agriculture, natural resources, and STEM fields, while also offering notable programs in aviation, nursing, and business administration. The university operates a fleet of aircraft for its aviation program at nearby Dover Air Force Base and maintains traditional residence halls and apartment-style housing for its undergraduate population. DSU competes in NCAA Division I athletics as the Hornets, participating in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
