Morgan State University, Maryland's largest historically Black university, occupies a 152-acre campus in northeast Baltimore. Established in 1867 as the Centenary Biblical Institute, the institution evolved into a public university and received National Treasure designation from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, noted for its cohesive collection of Georgian and Collegiate Gothic architecture. The university maintains strong programs in engineering, business, and sciences, with particular recognition for its School of Engineering and Institute of Urban Research. Located three miles from downtown Baltimore, Morgan State offers traditional dormitory and apartment-style housing for undergraduate students, while competing in NCAA Division I athletics as the Bears in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
