Frostburg State University is located in the Appalachian highlands of western Maryland, approximately 140 miles from both Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Originally established in 1898 as a state normal school for teacher training, FSU evolved into a comprehensive public university offering more than 100 programs across its three colleges. The 260-acre campus features a mix of historic and modern buildings, with Georgian-style architecture predominant throughout the main campus. The university maintains strong programs in education, business, and science fields, with particular recognition for its wildlife biology and engineering programs. Students typically reside in one of the university's six traditional residence halls or two apartment complexes, and the institution competes in NCAA Division III athletics as the Bobcats.
