McDaniel College, located in Westminster, Maryland, approximately 30 miles northwest of Baltimore, occupies a hilltop campus spanning 160 acres in the suburban Carroll County region. Founded in 1867 as Western Maryland College, the institution adopted its current name in 2002 to honor alumnus and former board chairman William Roberts McDaniel. The private liberal arts college maintains selective admission standards and offers undergraduate programs across more than 70 areas of study, with particular strengths in the sciences, education, and business administration. Students are required to live on campus for their first three years, residing in traditional residence halls or themed housing communities, and the college competes in NCAA Division III athletics as the Green Terror, participating in the Centennial Conference.
