The University at Buffalo (UB), part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, is a public research university established in 1846 and located in Buffalo, New York, within close proximity to the Canadian border and Niagara Falls. Spanning three campuses, North, South, and Downtown, the university is noted for its distinctive mix of contemporary and historic architectural designs, including the iconic brutalist-style Furnas Hall. As one of the largest institutions in the SUNY system, UB offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs, with a particularly strong emphasis on health sciences, engineering, and business. UB is regarded as a research-intensive public university, housing plentiful state-of-the-art facilities and promoting a diverse and collaborative academic environment. The school has a moderately selective admissions process and provides on-campus housing options to foster student engagement in the academic community. While UB's athletics, known as the Bulls, are a component of the university, they are not the primary focus of UB's identity.

In the most recent statistical year 30,939 prospective students applied, and 20,948 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 4,215 enrolled in the school.  26,541 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 5,558 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $7,070 plus fees of $3,712. UB is ranked 103 nationally in the CollegeSimply.com 2024 U.S. Colleges Ranking.
