Known for its programs in education, business, science, and liberal arts, Frostburg State serves a diverse student body with a moderately selective admissions process. The campus reflects modern and traditional architecture with facilities that support on-campus housing for students, aiming to bridge academic and residential life. Frostburg State's athletic teams, known as the Bobcats, compete in the NCAA Division II, primarily within the Mountain East Conference, though the university does not especially emphasize athletics as a defining characteristic.
