The United States Air Force Academy occupies a 18,500-acre campus situated at the base of the Rocky Mountains, just north of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Established in 1954, this federal military academy features distinctive modernist architecture, highlighted by the aluminum and glass Cadet Chapel, and operates as both a military installation and an accredited undergraduate institution. The academy provides a comprehensive military and academic education focused on aerospace studies, engineering, and military leadership, with all cadets receiving full scholarships in exchange for subsequent service commitments as Air Force or Space Force officers. All cadets are required to live on campus throughout their four years in gender-segregated dormitories, participating in mandatory military training alongside their academic studies. The institution maintains strict physical fitness requirements and fields NCAA Division I athletic teams, competing primarily in the Mountain West Conference.
