The United States Military Academy (USMA), commonly known as West Point, sits on a 16,000-acre campus overlooking the Hudson River, 50 miles north of New York City. Established in 1802 as America's first military academy, West Point features granite Gothic Revival architecture and has been designated as a National Historic Landmark. The federal service academy provides a full-scholarship, four-year undergraduate education that combines rigorous academic instruction with military training, requiring all cadets to live on campus and serve in the U.S. Army upon graduation. West Point's core curriculum emphasizes engineering, military science, and leadership development, while maintaining highly selective admission standards that require both academic excellence and a congressional or service-connected nomination. The academy fields 28 NCAA Division I athletic teams, known as the Army Black Knights, and maintains a historic football rivalry with the Naval Academy.
