The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire sits along the banks of the Chippewa River in western Wisconsin, approximately 90 miles east of Minneapolis-St. Paul. The 333-acre main campus features a mix of modern and historic buildings connected by footbridges and hillside paths, including the recently constructed Pablo Center for the Arts in downtown Eau Claire. Founded in 1916 as a teacher's college, UW-Eau Claire now operates as a comprehensive public university within the University of Wisconsin System, offering undergraduate and graduate programs with particular strengths in nursing, business, education, and music. The university maintains a moderate level of selectivity in admissions and houses approximately one-third of its students in campus residence halls.
