The University of Dallas is a private Catholic institution located in Irving, Texas, situated in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex approximately 10 miles northwest of downtown Dallas. The 744-acre suburban campus features distinctive mid-century modern architecture and includes a satellite campus in Rome, Italy, where many students participate in a semester-long study abroad program. Founded in 1956 by the Sisters of Saint Mary of Namur, the university maintains a rigorous Core Curriculum based in the Western intellectual tradition, with particularly strong programs in business, theology, and classical studies. The university operates as a primarily residential campus, with most undergraduate students living in one of six residence halls, and competes in NCAA Division III athletics as the Crusaders, primarily in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
