SUNY Maritime College occupies a peninsular campus at Fort Schuyler in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx, overlooking Long Island Sound and the East River. The historic Fort Schuyler, a preserved Civil War-era fortification, serves as the college's main administrative building and houses several academic facilities. As one of six state maritime academies in the United States, SUNY Maritime specializes in engineering, marine transportation, and maritime-focused business programs, with students pursuing both academic degrees and merchant marine licenses. The institution maintains a training ship, the Empire State VI, which cadets use for required sea terms and hands-on maritime experience. Residential students are housed in the Regiment of Cadets, a military-style organization that requires uniforms and adherence to regimental routines, though a civilian program option is also available for commuter students.
