Located in Vestal, New York, approximately 200 miles northwest of New York City, Binghamton University spans 930 acres across a hillside campus overlooking the Susquehanna River. Founded in 1946 as Triple Cities College before joining the State University of New York system, Binghamton operates as a selective public research institution with particular strengths in engineering, psychology, and its School of Management. The campus features a mix of mid-century modern and contemporary architecture, with most academic buildings concentrated around a central academic spine, while residential communities are situated in distinct living areas that include collegiate-gothic style residence halls and modern apartment complexes. As part of NCAA Division I athletics, Binghamton's Bearcats compete in the America East Conference, with notable programs in tennis and basketball.
