Stony Brook University, part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, is situated in the suburban environment of Stony Brook, on the North Shore of Long Island, approximately 60 miles east of New York City. Founded in 1957, the university has established a robust academic framework that includes highly regarded programs in mathematics, engineering, computer science, biochemistry, and marine sciences. With a moderately selective admissions process, Stony Brook attracts a diverse undergraduate population.
