New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is a public research university located in Newark, New Jersey, within close proximity to New York City. Founded in 1881, NJIT offers a diverse range of programs with an emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines, and it is known for academic programs such as engineering, architecture, and computer sciences. The urban campus spans 45 acres and features modernist architecture, housing over 11,000 students who can choose from more than 125 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. NJIT maintains a selective admissions process. On-campus housing is available, providing residence facilities for a significant portion of the student body. While NJIT may not be most noted for athletics, it participates in NCAA Division I sports as the Highlanders in the America East Conference.

In the most recent statistical year 13,010 prospective students applied, and 8,585 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 1,575 enrolled in the school.  9,649 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 2,683 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $15,198 plus fees of $3,314.
