Mississippi Valley State University, located in the rural town of Itta Bena in the Mississippi Delta region, is a public historically Black university established in 1950. The 450-acre campus features modern academic buildings and residential facilities, with most students living in on-campus housing. As one of Mississippi's eight public universities, MVSU offers undergraduate and graduate programs with particular emphasis in teacher education, criminal justice, and business administration. The university competes in NCAA Division I athletics as the Delta Devils, participating in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), and has produced notable athletes in both football and basketball.
