Alcorn State University, situated in Alcorn State, Mississippi, is a public historically black university established in 1871. It resides in a rural setting, approximately 20 miles southwest of Vicksburg and 80 miles southwest of the state capital, Jackson. The university's academic offerings encompass a range of programs with notable emphasis on agriculture, nursing, and education, reflecting its origins as the nation's first state-supported higher education institution for black students. Alcorn State's campus, characterized by its serene landscape and classical red brick architecture, also provides on-campus housing options for students.
