University of Michigan-Dearborn (UM-Dearborn) is a public university established in 1959 with a strong foundation in liberal arts and sciences, as well as professional programs. Located in the suburban city of Dearborn, Michigan, the campus is approximately 10 miles west of downtown Detroit, offering access to the metropolitan cultural and professional opportunities. UM-Dearborn creates a learning environment that merges a picturesque, 70-acre main campus known for its natural landscaping with modern educational facilities. The university does not offer traditional on-campus student housing but encourages a community-focused atmosphere through its University Housing at The Union at Dearborn, which is adjacent to campus. With a moderately selective admissions process, UM-Dearborn attracts a diverse undergraduate population and is recognized for its programs in engineering, business, and environmental science. The university is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II as part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference but is not primarily recognized for its athletic programs.
