The University of Michigan-Dearborn, located in the Detroit metropolitan area, occupies a portion of Henry Ford's former estate and research facility in Dearborn, Michigan. Established in 1959 through a land gift from Ford Motor Company, the suburban campus combines modern academic buildings with the historic Henry Ford Estate-Fair Lane. The university operates primarily as a commuter campus, though limited student housing opened in 2013 to serve a portion of the student population. UM-Dearborn's College of Engineering and Computer Science maintains strong connections with the region's automotive industry, while the College of Business, College of Arts, Sciences & Letters, and College of Education, Health & Human Services round out its academic offerings.
