Goucher College, located in the Towson suburb of Baltimore, Maryland, occupies a 287-acre wooded campus approximately eight miles north of downtown Baltimore. Originally established in 1885 as a women's college, Goucher became coeducational in 1986 and maintains a liberal arts curriculum with distinctive programs in dance, environmental studies, and international relations. The campus features a mix of modern and Victorian-era architecture, including several buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, and requires all undergraduate students to live on campus for their first three years in traditional residence halls or apartment-style housing. Goucher maintains a competitive admissions process and requires all students to complete at least one study abroad experience as part of their degree requirements, making it one of the few colleges in the nation with this mandate. The college competes in NCAA Division III athletics as the Gophers, primarily within the Landmark Conference.
