Xavier University of Louisiana, situated in the heart of New Orleans, holds the distinction of being the only historically Black and Catholic institution of higher education in the United States. Founded in 1925 by Saint Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, Xavier has a longstanding tradition of promoting a more just and humane society through its educational programs. The campus features a mix of modern and historic architecture, providing a distinctive backdrop for a diverse undergraduate and graduate student body. While the university offers a range of majors, it is particularly renowned for its Pre-Med program and its success in sending African American graduates to medical schools. In terms of application selectivity, Xavier is considered to be moderately selective.
