The University of Wyoming, established in 1886, is situated in Laramie at an elevation of 7,220 feet in the southeastern region of Wyoming between the Laramie and Snowy Range mountains. The main campus spans 785 acres and features a blend of historic sandstone buildings and modern facilities, with the prominent Wyoming Union serving as a campus hub. As Wyoming's only public four-year university, UW offers comprehensive undergraduate and graduate programs, with notable strengths in engineering, agriculture, energy resources, and environmental sciences. The university maintains strong research programs in atmospheric science, energy development, and natural resource management, supported by specialized facilities including the Advanced Research Computing Center. Most first-year students reside in one of the campus's residence halls, and the university competes in NCAA Division I athletics as the Cowboys and Cowgirls, participating in the Mountain West Conference.
