The University of Wyoming, located in Laramie, stands as the state?s premier institution for higher education and exhibits a blend of traditional architecture and modern facilities. Established in 1886, the campus provides a distinctive setting with its architectural focal point, the ivy-covered Old Main, surrounded by the sprawling plains and mountainous terrains of southeastern Wyoming, approximately 50 miles from Cheyenne. The university emphasizes research and offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate programs, including notable programs in agriculture, energy, engineering, and environmental science. While the university maintains a moderately selective admissions process, it remains accessible to a broad demographic of students. On-campus housing is available, fostering an inclusive environment for the student body. As for athletics, the Wyoming Cowboys and Cowgirls compete in the NCAA Division I Mountain West Conference and have achieved recognition in sports such as football and basketball.

In the most recent statistical year 5,797 prospective students applied, and 5,564 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 1,627 enrolled in the school.  8,643 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 2,457 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $4,800 plus fees of $1,821.
