The University of Charleston occupies a scenic riverside campus along the Kanawha River in Charleston, West Virginia's capital city. Founded in 1888 as Barboursville Seminary, the private institution relocated to its current location in 1947 and adopted its present name in 1978. The university offers professional and liberal arts programs across three academic schools, with notable strengths in pharmacy, healthcare sciences, and business. Undergraduate students are required to live on campus for their first two years, residing in one of five residence halls that overlook the river and downtown Charleston.
