West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech) operated in Montgomery, West Virginia, from 1895 until 2017, when it relocated to its current campus in Beckley, West Virginia, approximately 60 miles southeast of Charleston. The Beckley campus features modern academic facilities spread across an urban setting in the state's southern region. Originally established as the Montgomery Preparatory School, the institution evolved into a technical and engineering-focused college before becoming a division of West Virginia University. WVU Tech maintains a strong emphasis on engineering, computer science, nursing, and business programs, with engineering being its flagship discipline. The campus provides traditional dormitory housing for students, and as a member of the River States Conference, the Golden Bears compete in NAIA athletics.
