Marymount University, located in Arlington, Virginia, provides students with a suburban educational environment just outside the nation's capital, Washington D.C. Established in 1950 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, Marymount is an independent, coeducational Catholic university. The university is characterized by a mix of modern and traditional architecture with notable features such as the Reinsch Library and the Main House, reflective of its historical heritage. Marymount offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs with notable strength in nursing, business, education, and the sciences. While maintaining a moderately selective admissions process, Marymount fosters a diverse academic community. On-campus living is available, with housing options that accommodate a large percentage of the student population. Marymount?s athletic teams, known as the Saints, compete in the NCAA Division III, but the university is not primarily recognized for an emphasis on intercollegiate athletics.
