The campus features distinctive Jeffersonian architecture, anchored by the historic Ruffner Hall with its iconic rotunda, and spans 154 acres in a traditional collegiate setting. Founded in 1839 as the Farmville Female Seminary Association, Longwood stands as one of the oldest public institutions in Virginia and became coeducational in 1976.
