The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) is a public research institution established in 1969 and located in Richardson, Texas, within the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. UTD's suburban campus spans 500 acres and features modern architectural styles, with housing options available for students who prefer on-campus living. The university has a history that began as a private research arm of Texas Instruments and has since developed into a comprehensive institution known for its rigorous academic environment. UTD is selective in its admissions process and is recognized for strong programs in business, engineering, computer science, and the natural sciences. While not traditionally known for its athletic programs, the university participates in various intercollegiate sports as the UTD Comets, primarily competing at the NCAA Division III level.
