Penn State Erie, The Behrend College occupies a 854-acre campus overlooking Lake Erie in northwestern Pennsylvania, positioned four miles east of downtown Erie. The campus originated from a 1948 donation of the Behrend family estate and has evolved into a residential college offering more than 40 undergraduate degrees, with particular strength in engineering, business, and science programs. The campus integrates academic buildings with the original Behrend family mansion and features extensive woodlands and hiking trails. Known for its School of Engineering, which maintains partnerships with regional industry, Behrend houses specialized research facilities including plastics engineering labs and an advanced manufacturing center. Students have access to on-campus housing in traditional residence halls and apartment-style units, while competing in NCAA Division III athletics as the Penn State Behrend Lions.
