PennWest Clarion, located in the rural town of Clarion in western Pennsylvania approximately 75 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, is one of three campuses comprising Pennsylvania Western University following a 2022 merger of state institutions. The 201-acre main campus features a mix of modern and traditional brick buildings situated on rolling hills, with student housing available in both suite-style and traditional residence halls. Originally founded in 1867 as Carrier Seminary, the institution evolved into a teachers' college before expanding into a comprehensive public university offering programs across business, education, health sciences, and arts and sciences. The university maintains a strong focus on professional programs, particularly in business administration, education, and speech pathology, while also housing specialized facilities including a planetarium and the Peirce Science Center.
