Oberlin College, founded in 1833 and located in Oberlin, Ohio, is a private liberal arts college and conservatory of music renowned for its progressive history, including being the first college to grant undergraduate degrees to women and the first to adopt a policy to admit students of any race. Situated 35 miles southwest of Cleveland, the college presents a suburban campus noted for its distinct architectural blend of historic and contemporary buildings, with residence halls providing on-campus living for students. Oberlin is characterized by its intense academic ethos, with a wide range of majors, but is particularly known for its strong music and art programs. The college enrolls a diverse student body and maintains a highly selective admissions process. While not primarily recognized for its athletics, Oberlin competes in NCAA Division III as the Yeomen and Yeowomen.
