Located on the shores of Lake Ontario in upstate New York, SUNY Oswego occupies a 690-acre lakeside campus approximately 35 miles northwest of Syracuse. Founded in 1861 as the Oswego Primary Teachers' Training School, the institution evolved into a comprehensive public college within the State University of New York system, featuring a mix of historic and modern buildings across its main and west campuses. The college maintains moderate admission standards and offers more than 110 academic programs, with notable strengths in business, education, communication studies, and atmospheric and meteorological sciences.
