Established in 1860, the campus boasts a blend of historic and modern architecture set across a 1,000-acre wooded area complemented by views of the river. Bard is noted for its rigorous undergraduate curriculum, innovative arts programs, and its affiliation with the Bard College Conservatory of Music. Residential life is a central aspect of the Bard experience, with the majority of students living in dormitories and campus apartments. The college operates on a moderately selective admissions policy and is known for its interdisciplinary approach to education, exemplified by programs such as Environmental and Urban Studies.
