Seton Hall University, founded in 1856, is a private Roman Catholic university located in South Orange, New Jersey, approximately 14 miles from New York City. The university's suburban campus spans 58 acres and features Gothic architecture, offering a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs. Seton Hall is known for its academic offerings in business, nursing, and diplomacy and international relations. The institution has a moderately selective admissions process. On-campus living is available, with a majority of undergraduates residing in university housing. Seton Hall's athletic teams, known as the Pirates, compete in the NCAA Division I Big East Conference, particularly noted for their men's basketball program.
