Cottey College

Cottey College, located in Nevada, Missouri, approximately 90 miles south of Kansas City, is a private women's college founded in 1884 by Virginia Alice Cottey Stockard. The 66-acre residential campus features a mix of historic and modern buildings, including the main hall built in Victorian architecture style. As one of only a few remaining women's colleges in the Midwest, Cottey maintains a selective admission process and is owned and operated by the P.E.O. Sisterhood, an international women's organization. The institution offers both two-year and four-year degree programs, with notable strengths in business, environmental studies, and international relations, while requiring all students to live on campus in one of three residence halls. The college emphasizes global awareness through its required second-year international experience program, where students participate in organized study trips abroad.
