Michigan Technological University (MTU), established in 1885 and situated in the town of Houghton on Michigan?s Upper Peninsula, offers a focused educational atmosphere, especially renowned for its engineering and technology programs. This public research university, located far from Michigan's major urban centers, is nestled within a region known for its natural surroundings, which contributes to the campus?s notable rural and outdoorsy feel. MTU's academic profile is robust, with a particular emphasis on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. The school provides an array of undergraduate and graduate programs, with mechanical engineering, environmental science, and forestry being among the most popular. Housing is available on campus, with a variety of options for students opting to live within the university?s premises. Admissions at Michigan Tech are moderately selective, seeking a diverse and capable student body. The university's athletic teams, known as the Huskies, are not underscored for widespread collegiate athletic success, thus allowing the institution to maintain its primary focus on academic and research excellence.

In the most recent statistical year 7,893 prospective students applied, and 7,394 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 1,388 enrolled in the school.  6,292 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 771 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $17,296 plus fees of $318.
