Westfield State University, a public institution founded in 1838, is situated in Westfield, Massachusetts, approximately 30 minutes' drive from Springfield. Renowned for being the first public co-educational college in America to offer education without barrier to race, gender, or economic class, the university maintains a suburban campus that spans over 256 acres. With a focus on liberal arts and sciences, the university offers a variety of undergraduate programs and houses the distinguished Banacos Academic Center, which provides comprehensive academic support. The application process is moderately selective. On-campus housing is available for students, with multiple residence halls that support the university's enrollment of around 4,000 full-time undergraduates.
