Massachusetts Maritime Academy, established in 1891, is a public college located on Cape Cod at Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, approximately an hour's drive from Boston. Known for its regimented campus atmosphere and maritime-focused academic programs, the Academy provides a structured environment with an emphasis on experiential learning. It offers a range of undergraduate degrees primarily in the fields of marine engineering, marine safety and environmental protection, international maritime business, and emergency management, among others. The Academy also provides graduate-level programs, including a Master of Science in Emergency Management. Massachusetts Maritime Academy is moderately selective in its admissions process. Although not primarily recognized for athletics, the institution does compete in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) under the team name Buccaneers. On-campus housing is a significant aspect of student life at the Academy, with a majority of students residing in the barracks-style dormitories, which align with the disciplined and maritime-centric lifestyle that defines the institution.

In the most recent statistical year 1,028 prospective students applied, and 919 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 317 enrolled in the school.  1,392 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 33 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $1,994 plus fees of $8,640.
