Framingham State University is a public institution located in Framingham, Massachusetts, approximately 20 miles west of Boston. Founded in 1839, it stands as one of the oldest public universities in the United States, originally established as a normal school for education. The campus offers a traditional New England collegiate atmosphere with a mix of historic and modern architecture set on 73 acres of suburban land. The university provides on-campus housing options to students in its multiple residence halls. Framingham State offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, with notable emphasis on education, business, and the arts and sciences. While the university maintains a moderately selective admissions process, it is accessible to a diverse population of students. Framingham State does not have a major emphasis on athletics, but competes in the NCAA Division III as the Rams in various sports.
