Grambling State University, located in the small town of Grambling, Louisiana, approximately 60 miles east of Shreveport, is a historically Black public university founded in 1901 as the Colored Industrial and Agricultural School. The 383-acre campus features traditional brick buildings and modern facilities situated in a rural setting. The university is recognized for its nursing program, teacher education curriculum, and computer science department, while the mass communication program is known for producing numerous professionals in journalism and media. Grambling State maintains a tradition of strong athletic programs, particularly in football, where its team, the Tigers, competes in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) at the NCAA Division I level.
