Des Moines Area Community College's main campus is located in Ankeny, Iowa, situated 10 miles north of downtown Des Moines. The suburban campus spans 540 acres and features modern academic buildings connected by walkways through landscaped grounds. Founded in 1966 as part of Iowa's statewide community college system, DMACC operates as the largest two-year institution in the state with additional campuses in Boone, Carroll, Newton, Urban Des Moines, and West Des Moines. The college offers career and technical education programs, particularly in healthcare, business, manufacturing technology, and information technology, along with university transfer pathways through articulation agreements with four-year institutions. While primarily a commuter institution, the Boone campus provides student housing options and fields competitive athletic teams in baseball, softball, and basketball as part of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
