The University of Indianapolis, a private Methodist-affiliated institution, sits on a 65-acre campus in the urban residential neighborhood of University Heights, approximately five miles south of downtown Indianapolis. Founded in 1902 as Indiana Central University, the institution adopted its current name in 1986 and maintains a comprehensive academic program with notable strengths in health sciences, business, and education. The campus features a mix of historic and modern buildings, including the recently expanded health pavilion and renovated student center, with most first-year students residing in one of six residential halls. UIndy, as it's commonly known, competes in NCAA Division II athletics as the Greyhounds, participating in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, with particularly strong programs in men's and women's basketball and swimming.
