The University of Evansville is a private institution located in southern Indiana, situated in the state's third-largest city approximately 180 miles southwest of Indianapolis. The 75-acre campus features Georgian-revival architecture and serves as both an academic center and residential community, with most students living in campus housing during their first three years. Founded in 1854 as Moores Hill College before relocating to Evansville in 1919, the university operates a significant study abroad program at its Harlaxton College campus in Grantham, England. The university maintains selective admission standards and is recognized for its programs in engineering, nursing, and theater, with its undergraduate theater program consistently ranking among the top programs nationally. The Purple Aces compete in NCAA Division I athletics as members of the Missouri Valley Conference, primarily known for their men's basketball program.
