Piedmont University (formerly Piedmont College) is situated in the foothills of northeast Georgia's Appalachian Mountains in the town of Demorest, approximately 75 miles north of Atlanta. The private liberal arts institution, founded in 1897 by Congregationalist settlers, maintains a second campus location in Athens, Georgia. The main 300-acre campus features a mix of historic and contemporary buildings, including a newly constructed student commons and the Swanson Center for Performing Arts and Communications. Piedmont offers undergraduate and graduate programs across four colleges, with particularly strong offerings in education, nursing, and business, while maintaining small class sizes typical of liberal arts institutions. The university provides traditional dormitory housing for undergraduate students and competes in NCAA Division III athletics as the Lions.
