Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), established in 1887, is located in Tallahassee, Florida's capital city, and operates as the state's only public historically Black university within the Florida State University System. The 422-acre main campus, situated on the highest geographic elevation in the city, features a mix of historic and modern buildings, including several structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places. FAMU is known for its programs in pharmacy, engineering, architecture, and journalism, with the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences being among the nation's largest producers of African American pharmacists.
