Bethune-Cookman University, a private historically Black university in Daytona Beach, Florida, sits one mile from the Atlantic coast and approximately 60 miles northeast of Orlando. Founded in 1904 by Mary McLeod Bethune as the Daytona Educational and Industrial Training School for Negro Girls, the institution evolved through several transformations before achieving university status in 2007. The 86-acre campus features a mix of historic and modern buildings, with many structures showcasing Classical Revival architecture. B-CU maintains strong academic programs in nursing, business, and education, while also being recognized for its performing arts programs, particularly the marching band. The university provides on-campus housing in several residential halls, with first-year students required to live on campus, and competes in NCAA Division I athletics as a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
