Florida Memorial University, a private historically Black university located in Miami Gardens, Florida, sits on a 44-acre suburban campus approximately 15 miles north of downtown Miami. Founded in 1879 as the Florida Baptist Institute and later merged with Florida Memorial College, the institution stands as one of the oldest academic centers in Florida. The university offers undergraduate and select graduate programs with particular emphasis in aviation, business, education, and social sciences, including notably the only Bachelor of Science in Aviation program among HBCUs in Florida. The campus features traditional collegiate architecture with modern academic facilities, student residences, and the Lou Rawls Center for the Performing Arts. Florida Memorial competes in the NAIA Sun Conference as the Lions, primarily focusing on basketball, track and field, and soccer programs.
