Georgetown University, situated in the historic Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C., was founded in 1789 as a private Jesuit research university, making it one of the oldest higher education institutions in the United States. Known for its distinctive Healy Hall, which is a National Historic Landmark featuring Romanesque and Gothic Revival architecture, the university's campus offers a traditional collegiate atmosphere within an urban setting, a short distance from the nation's capital. Georgetown has a highly selective admissions process and offers a plethora of undergraduate and graduate programs, with particularly renowned schools of foreign service, law, and business. On-campus housing is available, with a majority of undergraduates living in university-provided accommodations. While the university maintains a competitive athletic program, known as the Hoyas, it is notably recognized for its men's basketball team.

In the most recent statistical year 26,638 prospective students applied, and 3,257 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 1,586 enrolled in the school.  15,462 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 5,522 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $61,872 plus fees of $180. Georgetown is ranked 29 nationally in the CollegeSimply.com 2024 U.S. Colleges Ranking.
