Georgetown University occupies a hilltop campus in Washington, D.C.'s historic Georgetown neighborhood, overlooking the Potomac River and situated three miles from the U.S. Capitol. Founded in 1789 as the nation's first Catholic and Jesuit university, Georgetown combines Federal-style architecture with modern academic facilities across its 104-acre main campus. The university maintains a highly selective undergraduate admission process and is particularly known for its School of Foreign Service, McDonough School of Business, and Georgetown University Law Center. Students are required to live on campus for three years, residing in residence halls and university-owned townhouses in the surrounding neighborhood. Located in the nation's capital, Georgetown provides students direct access to government institutions, international organizations, and policy research centers, while competing in NCAA Division I athletics as the Georgetown Hoyas.
