The Catholic University of America (CUA) occupies a 176-acre campus in the Brookland neighborhood of Northeast Washington, D.C., approximately three miles from the U.S. Capitol. As the national university of the Catholic Church in the United States, established in 1887 with papal approval, CUA features Romanesque and Gothic architecture across its grounds, including the prominent Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception adjacent to campus. The university maintains twelve schools offering undergraduate and graduate programs, with particular strengths in theology, philosophy, architecture, engineering, and performing arts. As a residential campus, CUA houses undergraduate students in traditional dormitories and suite-style accommodations, while its location in the nation's capital provides direct access to research institutions, government agencies, and cultural organizations. The university competes in NCAA Division III athletics as the Cardinals, primarily through the Landmark Conference.
